SEA Water™ (NL)

In the Netherlands, we’ve launched the world's first desalinated water brand by renewables: SEA Water™. A testament to the capabilities of SEA Water’s technology.

Produced at the North Sea through a desalination process powered entirely by renewable energy. Our products include both still and sparkling water, packaged in recyclable 330 mL aluminum cans, available in the largest supermarkets and wholesalers in the Netherlands.

But why start a desalinated water brand in a country where it always seems to rain? The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) published a report showing that drinking water in 2030 is not a certainty. Next to that, drinking water company Vitens recently had to decline connections with 45 companies due to water shortages. There are a lot of water ways to prevent these shortages. For example by reducing, re-using, and recycling your water. Next to that, it could be smart to look at new water sources, like the ocean.

Our Dutch set-up, located at the North Sea in IJmuiden is housed in an 8 ft container with 12 solar panels. Through improvements in reverse osmosis efficiency, we’ve drastically reduced the energy consumption typically associated with such processes, while ensuring that the water’s purity and taste remain of the highest quality.

Moreover, our operation within the Netherlands —a country with some of the strictest water laws globally— has been fully certified. This not only proves our commitment to innovation and quality but also highlights our ability to meet and surpass rigorous standards.

The brine (water with a slightly higher salt concentration) is returned to the ocean. This process, free from chemical additives, has been independently verified by engineering firm Svašek to have a negligible impact on the ocean’s natural salt balance.

We’re well aware the content of cans alone is not going to solve a water crisis. However, we are convinced that a different vision on the use of water is needed to provide a future-proof solution for the increasing global water scarcity. Next to our own water brand, our water is used as an ingredient for other exciting products. Using our water, manufacturers are less dependent on local fresh water sources. In May of this year, our first collaboration with Jopen Brewery will go live, a refreshing beer brewed with SEA Water™.

The launch of SEA Water™ marks an important step in our mission to provide innovative water solutions. Are you interested in collaborating or would you like to learn more about using SEA Water™ in your own products? Let’s get in touch!
