Our story begins with two brothers...

...surfing in Cape Town, 2018, during one of the worst droughts the city had ever seen.

While Cape Town braced for “Day Zero”, the moment the taps would run dry, the brothers paddled out into the Atlantic Ocean each day. A city surrounded by water… and yet nothing to drink. It didn’t add up. Why is a planet covered in water facing a water crisis? Back in the Netherlands - rainy, yet increasingly water-stressed - they started chasing a simple, radical idea: What if the future of drinking water isn’t underground… but in the sea? That question sparked SEA Water.

“What’s cooler than drinking water from sea I surf in?”

Sourced at sea

In 2022 they placed their first installation on the Dutch coast, capable of filtering seawater into pure, clean, mineralized drinking water, right at the source. This installation became their test case, their lab, and the blueprint for something much bigger: a modular, local, circular system that can be rolled out in coastal regions around the world. And here’s the difference: It’s desalination, but done differently. There’s a long-standing taboo around desalination. It’s seen as energy-hungry, fossil-fuel dependent, full of chemicals, and costly. SEA Water is here to prove it can be done another way: powered by renewables, without harmful additives, and built for efficiency - both environmentally and economically. From The Netherlands SEA Water came a new kind of water brand. One that doesn’t rely on melting glaciers, overdrawn aquifers, or faraway bottling plants — but starts and ends at the sea. Today, SEA Water is available in restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, festivals, and beach clubs across the Netherlands, with international expansion on the horizon. This isn’t just a brand. It’s a new way of thinking about water.
