Everything you need to know about SEA Water
The place to quench your thirst for knowledge and unravel enigmatic wonders!

SEA Water is an innovative, impact-driven Dutch water brand, specialized in high-quality water solutions, powered by renewable energy.
Changing the way people look at our oceans. With SEA Water, Dutch founders and brothers Tammo and Jort give shape to their personal mission to be part of a solution to global water scarcity. More specifically: showing the world that the ocean could be part of this solution.
Between two and three billion people worldwide experience water shortages while 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water. Seawater that is. What if there was a way of turning this water into clean, fresh drinking water? That is exactly what we do, using only renewable energy.
No - but we believe it’s a part of the solution. SEA Water isn’t just about selling canned water. It’s about shifting perspectives, starting conversations, and raising awareness around how we use and value water. Our mission is to spark change, share knowledge on the global water crisis, and make a lasting impact. You can see our cans as conversation starters — and dive deeper into how we believe we #canchange.
SEA Water does not aim to replace tap water. But even in countries like the Netherlands, we still consume huge amounts of bottled water, often without thinking about the impact. We want to show what’s possible when access to tap water is no longer guaranteed — a reality already faced by nearly 3 billion people. And by 2050, over half the world’s population could be in the same situation.
If we can produce high-quality drinking water from the sea using only renewable energy, right here in the Netherlands, a country with some of the strictest water laws in the world, then it proves it can be done anywhere. This isn’t just about the water we sell. It’s about shifting the way we think about water altogether.
Too often, indeed! But rain isn’t the same as accessible drinking water. In fact, rainfall patterns are already disrupted as a consequence of climate change. And the Netherlands are already experiencing more frequent periods of drought. SEA Water shows that even water-rich countries like ours can’t take tap water for granted, and that it’s time to explore resilient, future-proof alternatives.
You can directly buy our water - and our merch via our webshop. In the Netherlands, SEA Water is also available in Jumbo and Albert Heijn. And for businesses at several wholesalers such as Sligo, Bidfood, Hanos, VHC and Goedekoopdrank.nl.
Yes, and both extremely refreshing! Available in 330 ml cans and 750ml glass bottles for hotels, bars and restaurants.
Nothing salty here. The name SEA Water refers to the source where we get our water: the oceans! The salt is removed, and what’s left is clean, crisp drinking water — just like you'd expect from any premium water brand. Only difference is that ours comes from the sea.
Great questions! After desalination, we add all the good stuff back in making the water not only refreshing and tasty but also supports your hydration. For the water connoisseurs (mineral analysis, mg/l): Ca2+ 20; CI- 24;HCO3- 189; Mg2+ 2,4; K+ 3,9; Na+ 16; SO42- 9,6; pH 7,5.
We’re working with a very energy efficient, solar-powered, reverse osmosis technology to filter the salt and other unwanted stuff out of seawater. This basically means we efficiently press seawater through a filter, powered only by the sun and wind.
The technique of desalination is not. The process has been used by many people over many years, but not in the way we do. Reverse osmosis can be very energy intensive and complex while powered by fossil fuels. Together with our technology partners, we’ve redesigned the system and make use of a compact, energy efficient setup that relies fully on solar and wind energy.
Yes! Our installations are super compact, modular and scalable. All you need is access to the ocean! On top of the container are solar panels providing enough energy to power the full process. This means we can produce local water, everywhere.
The leftover salt, also known as the brine, is returned to the ocean. We know that a common concern with desalination is the leftover brine that can pose risks to marine life. And we take this seriously. While the brine from our system has a higher salt content than the water we take in, we do not use any harmful chemicals in our process.
So, while no human activity is entirely without impact we’re committed to working with the ocean, not against it! That’s why we’re continually striving to improve while working with marine impact partners to protect ocean ecosystems.
Aluminium is endlessly recyclable, unlike plastic. In fact, plastic degrades each time it’s reused and can only be recycled a couple of times before it ends up in landfills or worse, the ocean. Meanwhile, 75% of all aluminium ever made is still in circulation.
That means it is very likely that your SEA Water can have lived many past lives, as another can or something entirely different. Plus, cans are lightweight, space-efficient, and keep your water perfectly chilled. And let’s be honest, they look cooler too.
In the Netherlands, you can return SEA Water cans anywhere that accepts Statiegeld (deposit) returns - about 5000 supermarkets all over the country. There are also many collection points such as train stations and sports clubs.
A partner must actively work to protect and preserve our oceans. This may be in the Netherlands, but also abroad. Think of kelp/seagrass farms, ocean plastic cleaners, stimulating underwater biodiversity etc. If you want to work together or have a question about #CanChange, send us an email at canchange@drinkseawater.com
That’s great! We love partnering with businesses to reduce their freshwater footprint! By using SEA Water in your product, you not only minimize reliance on increasingly scarce freshwater resources — you also take a step toward becoming independent from traditional water networks.
