Pop-up exhibition: By the Sea

20 Sep 2025

Where ocean meets art

The abundance of water in the sea starkly contrasts the increasing drinking water shortages worldwide. Acquiring drinking water from the sea is a method that, from this abundance, can offer a solution for scarcity. However, it also brings up critical questions about how we collaborate with the sea in our efforts to overcome water scarcity, without repeating the dominant logics of exploitation of habitats.

The exhibition explored new ways of relating to (sea)water, using artistic imagination to reflect on the relationship between human and non-human entities through water. Five artists – Magdalena Salinas, Hanna Orion, BetweenTwoHands, Lisette van Hoogehuyze, and Rebeca Pardos Valls brought their own perspective, each treating the sea as a collaborator in their creative process – the result was powerful, thought-provoking, and deeply inspiring.

Thank you to our community for coming together to reflect on the bigger picture of how we interact with water.💧
